ESPCP 2008 makes a success

The Economic and Social Policy Consulting Program (ESPCP) 2008, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by Human Resources Study and Training Center of DRC, was successfully conducted from May 19 to June 2. 44 senior officials and experts (most of them at director and director general level) from 26 countries participated in the program. These countries included Armenia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Barbados, Fiji, Georgia, Indonesia, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Timor-Leste, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen. At the 9 lectures in Beijing, leaders and senior experts from relevant DRC departments comprehensively and systematically introduced, from different aspects, the basic national conditions of China, the historical process of China’s reform and opening up as well as economic and social development over the last 30 years. They also illustrated the challenges China is facing, as well as China’s development strategies and policy orientations. The participants travelled to Hebei Province for a field study. They visit the agricultural and the development-oriented poverty alleviation projects in Chengde City, and visited the world largest coal exporting wharf at Qinhuangdao Port. At the seminar specially organized by the host, representatives from 18 countries delivered their country reports respectively illustrating their development situations and major challenges. A number of DRC researcher attended the seminar. Many participants believed that they had learned a lot from these lectures and visits and had deepened their understanding about China. The success of ESPCP 2008 has been well received and highly valued by the participants. Mr. Jiang Xingsan, a member of DRC leadership and Director General of DRC’s General Office, and Mr. Wang Shichun, Director General from Department of Aid to Foreign Countries of Ministry of Commerce, attended the closing ceremony of ESPCP 2008.
