The China Development Forum 2007, themed "China: Towards New Models of Economic Growth," was successfully held in Beijing on March 17-19.
In an opening speech, Zeng Peiyan, acting vice-premier of the PRC at the time, said China will develop in a scientific way. He said China will implement new growth and development methods, and pay attention to conserving resources and protecting the environment. Over 400 experts, business people and officials from China and abroad attended the opening ceremony.
During the forum, delegates carried out in-depth discussions and research on the following issues: economic readjustment and transformation of economic growth models, fiscal policies towards a shift in economic growth dynamic, a resources-conserving and environmentally-friendly society, harmonious society and social policies, establishing a basic healthcare system covering urban and rural residents, building a new socialist countryside for the benefits of farmers, and a national strategy of self-reliant innovation.
Wen Jiabao, acting premier of the PRC at the time, met with participants and listened to their comments and suggestions on China's development.
