Abstract:　

The paper conducts a detailed investigation into the new trend emerging in the development of the service industry. It finds out that, the service industry is gradually gaining a dominant position in the economic activity; the features of the new economy are emerging in the internal structure of the service industry; the relationship between the service industry and the manufacturing sectors is steadily being strengthened; the global trade in services is growing at an accelerated rate; and the service industry is being regulated to varying but appropriate degrees.
