Abstract:

 --A Survey on Zhejiang’s Economic Development

Zhejiang Province is facing a series of new challenges after 20 years of rapid economic growth since reform and opening up. To upgrade the economy, a transition must be fulfilled in the pattern of economic growth: from a traditional one based on tangible capital accumulation to a modern one, which relies on knowledge building, technological innovation and higher efficiency. The institutional arrangement must also transfer from initial market economy to a modernized one. During the process, the government must reshape itself from an omnipotent manager to a service provider with limited administrative power, but higher efficiency, which is considered critical for enhancing the integrated economic competitiveness of Zhejiang Province.
