Abstract:
The paper reviews the 20-year history of the flow of farmers and puts into perspective the national policy concerned. It proposes that full recognition should be given to the relationship between the flow of rural laborers and the urbanization process in China. The contribution of the immigrant farmers to China's economic development should be fully estimated. The tendency of farmers towards marginalization in the urbanization process should be given adequate attention to. And necessary preparation should be made for the remarkable growth in the number of immigrant farmers in the next 5 to 10 years.
