Long Guoqiang explains the construction of Chinese new think tanks

Mar 09,2015

A vice-president of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), Long Guoqiang, has commented on the Chinese government's Opinions on Strengthening Efforts to Build Think Tanks with Chinese Characteristics, in a video interview with people.cn, on Feb 5.

The Opinions, which was released recently by the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the General Office of the State Council, proposed that China establish a think tank system that has an appropriate size and a reasonable pattern, and in which all types of think tanks can coordinate their work, with clear position and distinct features, by 2020, and build some top influential think tanks with a greater international reach.

In commenting on this, Long explained the connotation of new think tanks "with Chinese characteristics" and a greater impact think tanks have on national soft power. He also gave an in-depth analysis of the focus in think tank construction, in combination with the DRC's practices and experience.
