Research Report Special Issue No 41, 2015 (Total NO 1444)

Abstract:

Through several decades of development, regional aviation industry in the US and Australia has become quite sophisticated. Since both countries are similar to China in terms of economic geographic distribution and air transport industrial distribution, the experience and lessons accumulated in the course of their regional aviation development merit China's reference. Regional aviation started from 1930s to 1940s in the US, which boasts the most developed regional aviation network worldwide. In its progress growing from an infant industry to a sophisticated one, the US government has played an indispensable role by following such an industrial policy of ensuring people's basic right to travel, preserving national airline network accessibility and proactively encouraging market entities to get involved in competition. In Australia, in order to support regional air transport development, the Australian government has incorporated regional aviation into the overall framework of coordinated regional economic development, and at the same time kept improving the policy support system for regional aviation, loosened regulation and control, and given full play to market in aviation development.
