A summit to boost national development and utilization of gas energy, promote energy reform, and advance energy transformation in China took place on Nov 14, in Beijing.
The China Gas Energy Development and Energy Transformation Summit 2015 discussed the basic law, policies, and technological support for energy structural transformation, and displayed the achievements in technologies, finance, industries and innovative business models that boost energy transformation.
Li Wei, President of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), gave a keynote speech at the summit, saying that the coming 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) marks a critical period in terms of China's energy transformation.
New development concepts during the period will require accelerating energy revolution and energy technology innovation to ensure energy transformation and build a low-carbon, safe, and efficient modern energy system, said Li.
He added that the emergence of natural gas as China's major source of energy is the near future for the country's energy structural transformation. Meanwhile, a better institutional environment for energy transformation will arise from accelerated energy structural reform.
China also needs to build an efficient energy management system and a reasonable energy value chain, allowing energy to be traded in a modern market system. China is expected to build energy marketing, pricing, control, and governance by law systems by 2030.
Zhang Yuqing, Vice-Director of the National Energy Administration, talked about China's energy reform and future planning, emphasizing the development prospects of natural gas.
Keisuke SADAMORI, Director of the Office for Energy Markets and Security at the International Energy Agency, delivered a speech at the summit, as did other scholars and experts.
The summit released the China Gas Energy Development Report 2015 and documentation on other research achievements.
Representatives from renowned universities and companies took park in the summit. With more than 300 participants, the summit was jointly organized by the Research Institute of Resources and Environment Policies and the Research Department of Industrial Economy of the DRC.
