China’s economic development has entered a state of new normal. In view of the new changes relating to world economic development, climate and environment conditions and international governance, China needs to face up to the new challenges and stress priorities over development in order to achieve a sustainable growth. This book gives an in-depth analysis of the above-mentioned points from different perspectives, and puts forward relevant policy options for China’s long-term development. This book is composed of ten chapters with the following major contents.

With regard to new changes in the world, the book touches upon four major points. 1. Global economic governance pattern, including the economic growth of major economies, regional trade pattern and investment effects by developed countries. 2. Global climate change and consensus. 3. Adjustment of global governance pattern, including new features of globalization, increased difficulties in coordination and governance structural remodeling. 4. Challenges and opportunities facing China and relevant countermeasures.

The book analyzes and summarizes the pressures imposed on China by resources, environment and energy structure adjustment. China’s sustainable development will include the improvement and treatment of a number of factors such as water, air, solid waste, soil and ecological system. In light of the initial establishment of China’s socialist market economic system, the diversified consumer demand, people’s enhanced awareness of their rights and China’s closer connection with global economic performance, this book discusses China’s green development approaches and ecological and environmental protection bolstered by related institutional arrangements.

The book gives a detailed illustration of China’s natural resources, environmental protection, ecological civilization, industrial restructuring, regional coordinated development, urbanization and sustainable development, as well as related objective conditions, fundamental theories, achievements and progress, institutional mechanism and historical opportunities. In the last chapter, this book narrows down to the analysis of the systems and policy innovations relating to sustainable development, major opportunities, advantages and institutional guarantees.
