The Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) jointly held a symposium on the participation of centrally administered State-owned enterprises (SOEs) in the construction of the Belt and Road at PetroChina on June 4.

DRC President Li Wei said that the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) marks the start for a new stage in the construction of the Belt and Road. In recent years, the SASAC has directed central SOEs to actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road, and their participation has been progressing positively.

With the further advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, the central SOES also face many new challenges and risks. DRC and the Center for International Knowledge on Development will summarize the central SOEs’ successful experience of "going global", analyze new issues faced by them, and provide targeted suggestions for the central SOEs to better participate in the Belt and Road Initiative.

SASAC Chairman Xiao Yaqing pointed out in his speech that in recent years, central SOEs have actively participated in the construction of the Belt and Road and have achieved remarkable results in infrastructure construction, energy cooperation and development, and international cooperation on production capacity.

In the face of the new changes in the current political and economic situation in the world, the central SOEs must adhere to the expansion of opening up and continue to deepen cooperation with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative so as to continuously enrich the model of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, Xiao said.

Central SOEs should maintain high-quality development, and strengthen international operation quality and level, adhere to risk prevention and establish the bottom line for risk prevention, use international practice rules to promote coordinated development, vigorously cultivate international talents, and enhance publicity to establish a good international image of the central SOEs, Xiao added.
