Abstract: According to the survey findings in 2017 by DRC Research Team on “Survey on People’s Livelihood in China”, there has emerged a symbolic change that people’s satisfaction on food safety has been remarkably improved in two consecutive years. It shows that the efforts exerted on food safety improvement since the 12th Five-Year Plan period have made consumers become more satisfied with the results whereas they still feel that there is ample room for food safety improvement and some related issues need to be addressed. In this regard, relevant sectors should focus on the public’s demands and improve food safety. On one hand, the authorities should improve food regulation systems, build professional teams to solve prominent food safety problems and create more channels for people to buy safe food in a targeted manner. On the other hand, they should flesh out risk communication mechanism, make food safety information more accessible, respond to food safety issues in step with people’s wishes and enhance the public’s rationality.
Key words: survey on people’s livelihood, food safety, satisfaction, regulation enforcement
