Abstract: China’s social governance model has its own unique historical and cultural tradition, and is constantly innovated to adapt to economic and social changes. At present, social governance in China has common problems in theory, top-level design and local practice, and there are also large regional differences. In the eastern part of China, social governance problems are closely related to urbanization, mainly involving metropolis governance, migrant population management, land rights and property-based public space governance. The problem of hollowness and destitution in rural areas in central and western China is widespread, becoming the focus of social governance. In the western region, poverty alleviation is the main task of economic and social development; cultural integration is a prominent issue; and big data technology provides a chance of catching up for its social governance. Therefore, to construct the social governance system, we need to adhere to the problem orientation, base on public consensus and people’s livelihood, take participation promotion as the key, and adapt to local conditions to formulate and implement corresponding policies.
