Abstract: Through the four-decade continuous and rapid development since its reform and opening-up, China has become the world largest logistics market with global influence. Despite its large scale, China’s logistics industry is not showing satisfying performance. It is hindered by the following prominent problems: lack of strength, weak global interconnectivity, low modernization level, high logistics costs, less satisfying quality and efficiency, insufficient high-end, systematic and intensive logistics services as well as inadequate supply-chain services, outdated traditional operation models, etc. In the 13th five-year plan period and an even longer term in the future, China will see further advancement in industrialization, IT application, commercialization, urbanization, globalization and environmental protection progress, which means the demand, the technological supply, the institutional arrangements, the resource environment as well as the international landscape for logistics industry will change a lot. These require China’s logistics industry to work toward safe, efficient, convenient, automatic, informational, digital, networked, intelligent, refined, green and globalized direction of development.
