Zhang Laiming, Vice-President of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), led a delegation to the UK, Iceland, and Norway from June 13 to 22.

Zhang attended a symposium on the development of China and the world, and conducted special surveys on income distribution systems.

During his stay in the UK, Zhang attended a symposium themed China 1978-2018: Economy, Society, and Environment, jointly sponsored by DRC and the University of Cambridge, where he delivered a speech.

Zhang also attended the launching ceremony of the second series of the book The World and China 1978-2018: China's Economy, Society, and Environment, published by DRC and the University of Cambridge.

During his stay in Iceland, Zhang met with Svanhvít Jakobsdóttir, Director General of the Ministry of Social Affairs of Iceland, and exchanged views on the main models and characteristics, major challenges and future development trends of Iceland’s income distribution system.

Zhang also met with Professor Stefán Ólafsson of the University of Iceland, and held a discussion on Iceland’s income distribution system model and how it was influenced by the economic crisis.

Zhang met with the Chinese Ambassador to Iceland Jin Zhijian, and exchanged views on bilateral economic and social cooperation between China and Iceland.

During his stay in Norway, Zhang met with Christl Kvam, State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and exchanged views on the Norwegian income distribution system and on how to create a fair market environment and equal opportunities.

Zhang met with Marianne Eikvåg Groth, State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Finance, and exchanged views on how the Norwegian social security system regulates the income distribution order and improves the income distribution control system, and on the main challenges and future development trends in the field of income distribution.
