Abstract: The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is one of the major pilot projects of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In the course of its construction, the CPEC Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC), based on the bilateral cooperation mechanism, and the corresponding Pakistan’s domestic political mechanism have played a great role. As a decision-making mechanism, the JCC has under it several joint working groups which are responsible for making legal, authoritative and scientific decisions. Pakistan’s domestic mechanism covers various administrative departments and these departments have truly implemented different government major decisions and institutional projects and pushed ahead the construction of the corridor. With regard to the existing problems of the mechanism relating to the corridor construction, this paper puts forward the following policy options. Efforts need to be made to further flesh out relevant institutional mechanism, set up a complete performance review system, carry out in-depth institutional cooperation from the national level to the regional level, and enhance communication pertinent to the corridor construction with Pakistan’s military and other departments in a proper way. At the same time, future work needs to focus on cooperation in poverty alleviation, health care, education and other areas related to people’s livelihood, as well as on knowledge sharing for development so as to cultivate the idea of China-Pakistan community with a shared future among the people in Pakistan.
