New Changes and Future Prospects of China’s Regional Economic Pattern Since 2019 (No.232, 2020)

Nov 10,2020

By Liu Yong, Research Department of Development Strategy and Regional Economy, DRC

Research Report, No.232, 2020 (Total 5976) 2020-7-3

Abstract: The paper gives an illustration of the overall approaches toward national economic development and effects of major policies on regional economic development in 2019 and the first half of 2020. It notes that counter-cyclical macro-regulation policies had stabilized regional economic growth; the promotion of supply-side structural reform and the implementation of strategies to expand domestic demands had injected greater impetus into regional economic development; and deepening reforms and opening up in all respects had created new rooms for regional economic development. It points out that in 2019 and the first half of 2020, guided by the overall regional economic development and the special major regional economic strategies, China’s regional economic system and pattern had experienced large-scale, medium-scale and small-scale changes respectively at high-level, medium-level and grassroots-level. It narrows down to some projections on recent performance trends of China’s regional economic pattern in the second half of 2020 and proposes relevant policy options such as promoting new urbanization centering on the people, driving up demand-side growth, improving renovation of old urban areas and focusing on boosting development and construction of rural counties.
