Zhang Laiming, Vice-President of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) and Chief Vice-President of the Center for International Knowledge on Development, and Caroline Wilson, British Ambassador to China, attended the 5th UK-China Development Forum and delivered speeches on Dec 1.
Zhang pointed out that China and the UK, as major countries with global influence and major economies, have historical experience and successful practices in mutually beneficial cooperation. They should face the bright future of their two peoples and human society and join hands to promote practical cooperation such as pandemic prevention and control and economic recovery. Zhang put forward three suggestions for cooperation between China and the UK.
First, to insist on putting people's physical safety and health first, carry out precise prevention and reasonable response, and make due contributions to the global fight against the pandemic.
Second, to actively promote development cooperation with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as the lead, promote construction of interconnected infrastructure and reduce the development gap between North and South.
Third, to strengthen open cooperation, work together to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change, and actively expand cooperation in the fields of green recovery, green technology and green finance.
