Research Report, No.22, 2021 (Total 6087) 2021-2-24

Abstract: The complicated international landscape has posed various challenges to China in participating in global health governance. For instance, when foreign countries and international organizations come to make cooperation with China, they would face the pressure imposed by the U.S.; the motivation of China’s participation in international health cooperation and governance is easily misinterpreted; the quality of medical supplies and health governance capabilities of China often meet with doubts. In addition, China’s participation in global health governance is affected by some weak points including the lack of overall planning and top-level design, insufficient application of multilateral cooperation platforms, inadequate cultivation of personnel for global health cooperation, deficient involvement for non-government entities and weak communication capabilities for exchanges with the outside world. To address these issues, the government needs to step up the formulation of a strategic plan for China’s participation in global health governance, improve cooperation with multilateral health organizations in multiple ways, flesh out the innovation-oriented incentive systems for the cultivation of international health personnel, encourage non-government entities to participate in global health activities and enhance China’s presence in global public health field in a bid to promote the building of a global community of health for all.
