Research Report, No.52, 2021 (Total 6117) 2021-3-15

Abstract: Green is the inherent color of agriculture and rural areas. Promoting green development is a profound revolution to realize the development concept of agriculture and rural areas, and also an urgent need to break the bottleneck of resources and remove environmental constraints in China. Promoting green development is inseparable from improving the quality efficiency and competitiveness of agriculture, building beautiful and livable rural areas and increasing farmers’ income. The guidelines of green development concept, the realization of peak carbon emissions by 2030 and the increasing demand for green agricultural products, rural ecological products and services will all be turned into a driving force for green development of agriculture and rural areas in China in the future. However, there are some hurdles to be crossed for the green development in agriculture and rural areas such as imbalanced growth between increased agricultural production and green development, overuse of cultivated land resources, imperfect industrial chains of waste utilization, and imperfect transformation mechanism of rural ecological value. We need to concentrate our efforts on addressing weak links, carrying out scientific and technological research on seed industry targeting at weak varieties, continuously improving the quality of cultivated land, and enhancing the ecological restoration in rural areas. At the same time, we need to accelerate the improvement of long-term market-oriented mechanisms for ecological compensation and value realization of ecological products.
