Jul 27,2021

By Shao Ting, Research Team on “China’s Livelihood Survey”, DRC

Research Report, No.134, 2021 (Total 6199) 2021-5-26

Abstract: The Research Team on “China’s Livelihood Survey” of DRC conducted a door-to-door survey on people’s major concerns on their well-being including housing security in 2020, receiving a total of 11,314 valid questionnaires. Findings of the survey showed that the overall housing conditions of the respondents are good, in which more than 70 percent are satisfied with their housing conditions. However, more than half of the respondents hope to improve their housing conditions. Compared with local respondents with urban household registration, surveyed new citizens with more difficult living conditions and low satisfaction on housing are eager to demand housing security equal to the former. Therefore, the authorities need to improve housing security and leasing systems in large cities with significant population inflow and high housing prices and address the housing problems of the new citizens, especially the young people. Efforts are also needed to accelerate the renovation of old communities and districts in cities to improve the quality of housing, enhance living conditions of residents and promote the building of green housing.
