The promotion of green consumption is one of the key tasks to develop green development modes and lifestyles, which is of great significance for driving overall green transformation of economic and social development and achieving the goals of carbon dioxide emissions peaking and carbon neutrality. Developed countries took early steps to promote green consumption and they have developed complete policy systems and fostered green consumption model. Their experience makes good reference to China. This paper illustrates the practices of major developed countries on promoting green consumption as well as their experience and policies on spurring green consumption. China needs to take the advantage as a latecomer to accelerate the building of a systematic and comprehensive policy system, refine infrastructure construction, and boost supply-demand side green products.
