Research Report No 243, 2012

Abstract:

Research fellows from the Institute of Public Administration and Human Resources of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) went to the UK twice for special training.

After visiting think-tanks in the UK and communicating with experts, the research fellows of the DRC summarized the British think-tanks'characteristics. They have obvious political tendencies and are mainly sponsored by the parties, though they still insist on independent research with a high degree of openness and internationalization. They are forward-looking in research, focusing on the effectiveness and independence of research. They also seek public attention and support through media with prominent international exchanges and cooperation. Their fellows have strong professional skills, as well as rich working creative experience.

British think-tanks suggest China should promote the development of think-tanks at multiple levels and in various fields, build think-tank channels to offer advice, use the media to publicize achievements, and increase attention to international and global problems.
