Beijing hosts seminar on China-EU cooperation

The Research Institute of Resources and Environment Policies and the University of Hull held a small-scale international seminar themed around China-EU cooperation opportunities on renewable energy at the Development Research Center of the State Council in Beijing on Sept 13.

The seminar was chaired by Gao Shiji, director-general of the institute. Wang Yinan, a fellow at the institute, delivered a speech on the status and outlook of China’s wind power development. David Gibbs, professor of the University of Hull, and Dai Xiudian, PhD, explained EU policies on renewable resources and China-EU cooperation opportunities in wind power.

Pan Weiping, product director from Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology Co, a domestic leader in wind turbine manufacturing, briefed participants on the company's development and exploration in the offshore wind power sector.

More than 30 experts and research fellows attended the seminar and had in-depth discussions about the prospects of the wind power industry and China-EU cooperation opportunities in this sector.

They included representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the Energy Research Institute under the National Development and Reform Commission, the New Energy Research Institute under the China Electric Power Research Institute, the China Association of Renewable Energy, the China Association of Wind Turbine Manufacturers, the European Union's representative office in China, the EU Chamber of Commerce, the British embassy, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy, leading European wind turbine companies like Vestas and Gamisa, and departments of the DRC.
