Abstract:

The three less prosperous member states of Greece, Spain and Portugal joined EEC quite late compared with other states, Greece in 1981 and Spain and Portugal in 1986. By making use of the opportunities of participation in European economic integration and opening markets and through policy adjustment, the introduction of EU fund and foreign investment and sharpening competitive edge, the three countries have successfully narrowed the gap with the developed member states in terms of economic development. The experiences and lessons gained by them are worth studying in light of regional integration strategy in China.
