The bio-industry is at present time a leading strategic industry full of vitality. It will become a driving force for socio-economic development. It is becoming a new sector of economic development after the IT boom to support a new round of economic growth. At the same time, the bio-industry is closely related to human health and the security of animal/plant and will be a decisive sector in the international competition. China has got a good background for the bio-industry, in terms of talent pool and scientific research basis. The bio-industry in China is just taking shape with a distinct tendency of concentration. However it is still in its initial stage, and the state ought to take effective policy measures to promote the development of the industry.
