The predominant conditions in technology supply and demand in China are analyzed in this report as: inadequate domestic innovation capacity, and insufficient supply relative to the demand for technology needed in the economic and social development. The future development of China's science and technology should be based on combining the independent R&D with introduced foreign technology, by taking advantage of the socialist system and by pooling available resources and capacity to tackle key problems on major technological equipment projects. At the same time, it is important to give play the role of market mechanism to power R&D according to the demand for technology generated from the economic and social development.
