Research Report, No.126, 2018 (Total 5401) 2018-8-10

Abstract: In recent years, with the breakthrough made in algorithm models, enriched data resources, and the continuous improvement of high-performance computing capabilities, artificial intelligence is getting ahead in technological progress and taking the lead in industrial development. It is applied in the fields of security system, medical treatment, transportation, home appliances, manufacturing, finance, retail and relevant sectors. Thanks to the huge population base, abundant venture capital, rich application scenarios and the rapid follow-ups of a large number of enterprises, China has become one of the front-runners in the world in typical applications such as computer vision, Chinese speech recognition and unmanned driving, and has accumulated market conditions with an industrial foundation for a swift development. However, we must be aware of the fact that there is still a long way to go for China in the fields of high-end chips, algorithm framework and industrial ecology compared with the advanced countries. Besides, the supply of supporting systems related to applications is relatively lagging behind, the total number of personnel is limited and the relevant structure is inappropriate. It is suggested that related departments should adopt measures to follow the performance trend of intelligent reform, take innovating system supply and optimizing development environment as the main line, support the promotion and application of new products and new business, enable key technology and algorithm framework to make breakthrough, promote the coordinated development between upstream and downstream industries, constantly improve the scientific and technological innovation ability and sharpen industrial competitive edge.
