By Su Hongwen & Jiao Xudong, Research Team on “Strategies for Regional Collaboration in Waste Treatment in the Yangtze River Delta” of the China Rural Labor Association, DRC

Research Report, No.42, 2019 (Total 5542) 2019-3-28

Abstract: It is a major national strategy of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to promote regional integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta. The Yangtze River Delta enjoys developed economy and dense population, while waste and discarded matters have become great bottlenecks restricting high-quality development of city clusters in the region. Given restrictions of geographical conditions, institutions and mechanisms, problems such as unsmooth connection of waste sorting in the whole process of disposal, insufficient land and inadequate collaboration between regions loom large. Faced with increasing amount of the waste generated in the Yangtze River Delta region, it is difficult to completely solve the problem by relying on the power of a single city. Therefore, it is indispensable to learn from advanced domestic and foreign experience for high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta, identify and solve problems, strengthen top-level design for mechanisms, give full play to the roles of both governments and the market, develop long-term market-oriented mechanisms, strengthen inter-region cooperation to jointly solve the problem of waste disposal in the Yangtze River Delta.
