Abstract: The report delivered at the 19th CPC National Congress proposes to provide more and fine quality ecological products to meet people’s ever-growing demands for an eco-homestead environment. To fulfill this goal, Qinghai, Guizhou and Jiangxi provinces as well as Lishui city in Zhejiang province have launched pilot trials based on relevant mechanisms and explored approaches and modes for value realization of ecological products. Overall, the theoretical and practical explorations for value realization of ecological products both at home and abroad are still exploring the way forward in the early stage. Meanwhile, theoretical systems relating to ecological products such as natural capital accounting need to be developed and improved. Various approaches to value realization of different ecological products and the role of the government in the drive also need to be further clarified. The paper, by focusing on theoretical analyses of value realization of ecological products, has systematically sorted out the definition of ecological products and value realization based on academic researches and policy documents at home and abroad, identified the definition of ecological products and summarized the four economic features and eight payment methods of value realization of ecological products. It proposes the approaches toward value realization of ecological products with four economic features from theoretical perspective and makes it clear that the government, as the largest supplier of ecological products, needs to play the role of the supplier, regulator and participant in formulating institutions for value realization of ecological products.
