Abstract: Singapore is one of the late developers with the highest per capita income level in East Asia and also one of the countries with the largest income gap between the rich and the poor in the world. Effective social governance is an important factor for Singapore to achieve economic development and social harmony in spite of the complex social structure. By fostering the common values with national consciousness at the core, establishing an effective income redistribution policy and an integrated, shared, incentive and inclusive social security system, implementing fine and sound community governance, and supporting family construction, Singapore has realized social harmony and stability, and its experience makes good references for China. In the new era, in order to improve the social governance and promote social harmony, we need to attach importance to the cultivation of patriotism, socialist core values and the community awareness of the Chinese nation, accelerate reform of the income redistribution adjustment mechanism, improve the universal social security system, build vibrant grassroots social governance pattern, and encourage and support the family to play a greater role in social construction and social governance.
