Abstract: By comparing with Yangtze River Delta region, this paper tries to find out the gaps between the former and the Chengdu-Chongqing region in integration and conduct in-depth analysis on the profound problems with the latter. The research found the following issues. First, in terms of market integration, the intensity and efficiency of fundamental infrastructure, the internal industrial labor division and cooperation, development of rural, urban areas and regions and the completeness of urban system, Chengdu-Chongqing region still lags behind compared to Yangtze River Delta region Second, there are profound problems with the integration of Chengdu-Chongqing region, which mainly include its special geographical conditions, the mismatch between the administrative status of central cities and their economic capabilities, the excessive former industrial bases and resource-exhausted regions with difficulties in their transformation, the lack of efficient and convenient channels for exchange and communication with the outside regions and the increasingly challenging internal and external development environment. At last, to deal with the above-mentioned gaps and problems, this paper suggests that work be done to push ahead with the integration of Chengdu-Chongqing region through focusing on the establishment of coordination agencies and institutional mechanisms, the fundamental infrastructure construction, joint efforts in industrial parks development and metropolitan development for central cities.
