The Department of Social and Cultural Development studies the development of policy systems and related institutional and mechanism reforms in China's social and cultural fields, as well as major issues involving population and employment, social security, income distribution, healthcare, elderly care services, social governance, culture and education. It also conducts coordinated research on ecological civilization and green development, including resource development and utilization, ecological and environmental protection, and climate change responses, and puts forward corresponding policy advice and recommendations.
