The Institute for World Development is a Category I public-service institution of the DRC. Its main functions are to conduct research on major issues concerning global development, the world economy, global governance, major-country relations and non-traditional security; serve China's reform and opening-up and national economic development; and provide policy recommendations in support of decision-making by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. While ensuring completion of tasks assigned by the central authorities and DRC policy research projects, it also provides consulting services to local governments, major enterprises, public organizations and international institutions, and undertakes other tasks assigned by the DRC.
